Public Art

July 15 - 19, 2024

With Heather Davis.

Students will consider all the practical considerations of making and installing a public art piece. We will begin by researching how pieces are installed, then planning, sketching, and building maquetts, then we will progress to a large scale sculpture. We will discuss site-specificity, materials, interior scaffolding, etc. These will be temporary, low impact sculptures that will be on display on campus at the end of the week, photographed in place, then disassembled. Materials will include: wood, metals (welding), fabric, found object, casting materials and more

All levels; some experience needed. Some experience with wood and welding are preferred but not mandatory. Experience in the material of choice for each student is a plus.
